タイ国境に近いビルマ南東部ミャワディーで7日、少数民族カレン人の武装グループの連合軍が7日に行われた総選挙に反対し、同地で武装蜂起した。
少数民族の連合軍のリーダーはAPF通信社の取材に対し、「ビルマ軍は総選挙で投票しない市民を弾圧しようとした。私たちの武装蜂起は市民らを救うことが目的だ」と答えた。
8日には、少数民族の連合軍とビルマ軍との間で戦闘が起き、死傷者が出ている。
戦闘は現在、収束しつつあるが、2万人規模のミャワディー市民が国境の川を越えてタイ側へ避難している。
