あの日から一年が経ちました。私は未だに長井さんの死を受け入れられないでいます。どう受け止めたらいいのかが分からないのです。なぜ、長井さんは射殺されたのか？その時、現場では一体何が起きていたのか？長井さんが握りしめていたビデオカメラは今どこにあるのか？長井さんが最後に撮影した映像は何を捉えていたのか？そして何を伝えたかったのか？ そうした疑問や謎のひとつひとつが解明されなくては、この事件を乗り越え、前に進むことが出来ないのだと思います。
私たちはこれまで外務省を通じてミャンマー軍事政権に対し、カメラとビデオテープの返却や事件の真相解明を求めてきました。しかし、事件に対するミャンマー軍事政権の主張は、「長井さんは流れ弾に当たった。至近距離からの狙い撃ちではない」とか、「長井さんが倒れる様子が映っているビデオはＣＧで捏造されたものだ」等々、まったく話になりません。日本警察の科学捜査によって、至近距離からの発砲は間違いありません。また、長井さんが倒れる様子が映っているビデオは数種類あり、ＣＧで作った等あり得ないのです。
警視庁組織犯罪対策課の皆さんには今日まで事件解明のために大変な努力をして頂きました。「現場に行けない」という国境の壁を乗り越え、長井さんを射殺した兵士の所属部隊の割り出しや、銃の特定、至近距離から射殺されたことの科学的な証明など、最大限の結果を出していただいたと、大変感謝しています。
問題は外務省です。これまで私たちには何の説明もありませんし、努力の様子もまったく伝わってこないのです。こんな話があります。警察が事件現場の住所を外務省に照会したところ、調べられないというのです。ミャンマーは日本と外交が無い国ではありません。むしろこれまで日本が巨額の経済援助をしてきた国です。何のための援助だったのでしょうか？日本は住所も調べられないような国に対し援助していたのでしょうか？住所も調べられない外務省が、どうして事件を解明することが出来るのでしょうか？私の問に、外務省の担当者は「それを言われてしまったら何も言えません」と言葉を詰まらせていました。これが私たちの国、日本の外務省なのかと思うと、大変ショックでした。
警察の努力や国民の血税を無駄にしないためにも、そして何より、長井さんやご遺族の無念を晴らすためにも日本外務省には毅然とした態度でミャンマー軍事政権に対し事件の真相解明を迫ることを強く求めます。
最後になりましたが、事件発生から今日まで署名活動を通して尽力頂いたボランティアの皆さんに心より感謝申し上げます。１０万人以上の署名が集まったことに、私どもは大変勇気づけられました。皆さんの気持ちに応えられるよう今後も精一杯力を尽くしてゆきますので、どうか宜しくお願い申し上げます。
