『タイ・エイズ孤児』

1980年代の発見から世紀を超えて
未だ決め手となる治療方法が見出せない難病エイズ。
日本では厚生労働省のエイズ動向委員会の調査によると、
国内におけるHIV感染者は増加の一途をたどり、
中でも若年層の異性間性的接触による感染の増加が懸念されている。
感染経路は、従来の「同性愛」から「異性間」へと移ってきており、
日常生活への波及が大いに懸念される。
それは、罪もない子供への感染の危機をも意味している。
今回の取材は、エイズによって親を亡くし、
自らも親からＨＩＶ感染した子供たちが暮らす
タイ・チェンマイの施設を訪ねた。
1999年11月に開設した「バーンロムサイ」である。
「死を迎えるホスピスではなく、子供たちが将来、仕事を持ち、
自分自身で生きていけるように育てていく」と
代表の名取美和さん(右写真)は言う。
死を乗り越えて生存を信じて生きている子供たちを追った。
