国際監視団や外国人記者拒否 総選挙でミャンマー軍政
【バンコク共同】ミャンマーからの情報によると、同国選挙管理委員会は１８日、首都ネピドーでミャンマー駐在の各国外交官らを対象に会見し、１１月７日に投票が行われる総選挙の期間中、国際選挙監視団や外国記者を受け入れない方針を明らかにした。理由については「必要性がない」と説明した。
国際社会は軍事政権に対し、自宅軟禁が続く民主化運動指導者アウン・サン・スー・チーさんを解放し、自由で公正な選挙の実施を求めているが、軍政側は「複数政党が参加する公平な選挙」と主張。国際監視団などの受け入れ拒否という強硬姿勢を打ち出したことで、選挙の正当性への疑問がさらに強まりそうだ。
選管のテイン・ソー委員長は会見で、「外国メディアの代表として（最大都市）ヤンゴンに地元記者が常駐し選挙取材ができるため、外国人記者を受け入れる必要はない」と強調。「投票当日、外交官や国連機関を対象に視察ツアーを予定している」として、選挙監視団は不要との考えを示した。
選管によると、投票所敷地内への記者の立ち入りや、投票所での撮影は「有権者のプライバシー保護」を理由に禁じられている。
