ミャンマー ２０年ぶりの総選挙を１１月７日実施へ

ミャンマー（ビルマ）で総選挙が１１月７日に実施されることが明らかになった。ミャンマー国営ラジオが伝えた。
同国の総選挙実施は１９９０年以来。このときの選挙では、ノーベル賞受賞者のアウン・サン・スー・チーさん（６４）率いる国民民主連盟（ＮＬＤ）が圧勝したが、軍事政権が結果を認めなかった。同国は１９６２年以来、軍事政権下にある。
今回の総選挙実施についても、民主主義を装うための動きにすぎないとの批判がある。
軍事政権は、有罪判決を受けた者が所属する政党は選挙に参加できないとする新たな政党登録法を発表しており、スーチーさんの立候補を阻止した。ＮＬＤは、スーチーさんを党首として維持するか、スーチーさんを除籍して選挙に臨むかの選択に迫られた末に、選挙への不参加を決定した。
スーチーさんは１９８９年に自宅軟禁に置かれた。翌年行われた約３０年ぶりの自由選挙ではＮＬＤが８０％以上の議席を獲得したが、軍政は自宅軟禁中であることを理由にスーチーさんの資格をはく奪した。
２００９年８月には、自宅軟禁中の規則に違反したとしてスーチーさんに有罪判決が下された。これは米国人男性がスーチーさん宅に侵入し、短時間滞在したことを受けたものだ。
スーチーさんの自宅軟禁は２０１０年１１月まで延長され、２月には控訴も却下された。スーチーさんは過去２０年の１４年以上を自宅軟禁状態で過ごしている。
